Shillong: The College of Teacher Education (CTE), Shillong, has unveiled a new classroom built with funds from the Members of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) Scheme 2024-2025, marking a step forward in strengthening teacher education in Meghalaya.
The facility is part of the College’s broader initiative to modernize its infrastructure and align its learning environment with the multidisciplinary and skill-based objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The inauguration took place on October 17, with Dr. W.R. Kharlukhi, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament, officially opening the classroom and unveiling a commemorative plaque.
The ceremony was attended by the College’s governing body, Principal Dr. Bahunlang Tron, faculty members, student-teachers, and other invited guests.
Dr. Kharlukhi lauded CTE Shillong for its dedication to quality teacher education and stressed that public initiatives like MPLAD are crucial for fostering educational development.

He encouraged the College to pursue further collaborations with government bodies to strengthen infrastructure and expand academic opportunities for student-teachers.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks, recognising the efforts of faculty, students, and the construction committee.
The new classroom stands as a symbol of CTE Shillong’s commitment to future-ready teacher education, in line with the transformative vision of NEP 2020.
