Shillong: Four Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested in connection with the armed assault, abduction attempt, and near-fatal attack on a villager in Meghalaya’s South West Khasi Hills district, police said on Saturday.
Superintendent of Police Banraplang Jyrwa said the incident took place around 3 am on Thursday, when eight to nine armed men stormed a shop at Rongdangai village under Ranikor subdivision, where Balsrang A Marak was asleep.
The assailants allegedly threatened him at gunpoint, handcuffed him, and marched him towards New Rongdangai while discussing killing him.
Marak managed to escape under the cover of darkness, taking shelter in a nearby house.
However, the attackers followed, assaulted him again, and ordered the family to get him medical attention before fleeing.
Police later received reports of armed intruders near Khonjoy village.

The suspects abandoned weapons, cash, a mobile phone, and the ID card of a Bangladeshi police constable before escaping into nearby forests.
One suspect, identified as Masur Akhtar, was caught by villagers on Saturday.
A joint operation by Meghalaya Police, BSF, and locals later led to the arrest of three more suspects near Khonjoy the same afternoon.
A coordinated manhunt is underway to track down the remaining members of the gang.
