New Delhi/Shillong: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and briefed him on the state’s development progress and long-term growth roadmap.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister thanked the Prime Minister for extending warm wishes on the occasion of Meghalaya Statehood Day and conveyed the gratitude of the people of the state.

He also expressed appreciation for the Prime Minister’s recognition of Meghalaya’s living heritage, particularly the national acknowledgement and global nomination of the Living Root Bridge Cultural Landscape.

Sangma apprised the Prime Minister of Meghalaya’s recent economic and social advancements, highlighting strong economic growth, improvements in maternal health and human development indicators, and efforts to strengthen large-scale processing units and market linkages aimed at doubling farmers’ income.

He also spoke about progress in the development of New Shillong city, expansion of tourism through private sector and community participation, and preparations for hosting the 39th National Games in 2027.

The Chief Minister further outlined the state’s initiatives to preserve and promote indigenous knowledge systems and cultural heritage, emphasising their role in Meghalaya’s identity and development strategy.
