Shillong: A 14-year-old girl from Umpling Dong Shaneng Block-6 has gone missing since Sunday evening, deepening fears among residents as Shillong continues to witness a series of disappearances involving minors in recent days.
The teenager, who lived opposite the BSF gate, was last seen when she stepped out to fetch water from a tank shortly before her family gathered for their evening Rosary.
She never returned, prompting an immediate search by her family members.
During the search, the family discovered a wristwatch lying near their house.
Investigators are yet to determine whether the item belongs to the missing girl or to someone else.
After she could not be located, Marbaniang filed a complaint at Rynjah Police Station.
East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed that a missing person case has been registered and that search operations are continuing.
Meanwhile, volunteers and residents of the locality have joined hands with authorities, checking vehicles and scouring nearby areas for any possible clue to the girl’s whereabouts.
The case has sparked unease in the city, particularly because Umpling lies close to Nongrah — the neighbourhood where two minors were reported missing recently and were later found dead.
