RESUBELPARA: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma inaugurated the first block-level public hearing under the CM Connect initiative at Chenanggre Stadium, Adokgre, North Garo Hills, on Thursday.
This initiative aims to strengthen direct communication between the government and citizens, addressing grievances at the grassroots level to expedite developmental progress.
During his address, CM Sangma highlighted the government’s commitment to understanding and resolving local issues that hinder progress.
He outlined plans for government officials to visit all Community and Rural Development (C&RD) Blocks across the state, engaging with residents to shape policies and programmes that directly impact their lives.
CM Sangma concluded his address by encouraging active participation from the public in sharing grievances and suggestions, affirming the government’s commitment to responsive governance through CM Connect.
Accompanied by public leaders and government bureaucrats, including Minister Marcuise Marak and various MLAs, CM Sangma highlighted the auspicious beginning of the CM Connect initiative from Adokgre, a tradition in the Sangma family’s political campaigns.
The interactive session saw citizens raising concerns about delayed road construction, bridges, and infrastructure upgrades.
Kharkutta MLA Rupert Momin detailed ongoing developmental activities in the area, underscoring the local impact of such initiatives.
Speaking at the event, North Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner A K Singh praised CM Connect as a vital platform for public engagement, urging residents to collaborate towards community improvement.
He described the initiative as enhancing transparency and accountability in governance by ensuring public concerns are promptly addressed.
The programme also featured the distribution of cheques under MSRLS/NRLM for SHGs, VOs, and CLFs, aimed at empowering local groups economically.
Data Facilitators Volunteers were also registered under the CM Connect framework, enhancing community participation in governance.
This initiative marks a significant step towards bridging the gap between the government and citizens, fostering a more inclusive and responsive governance model in Meghalaya.
