Shillong: Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Wednesday announced an initial grant of Rs. 25 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund to support the construction of a new building for Little Flower Higher Secondary School, Mawbri.
Sangma made the announcement while attending the closing ceremony of the school’s Golden Jubilee celebrations as the Chief Guest.
Applauding the institution’s 50 years of service under the motto “Darkness to Light”, the chief minister lauded the role of its management, teachers, alumni, and the Catholic Church in shaping generations of students.
He also highlighted the government’s continued investment in school infrastructure, grants to private schools, and programmes aimed at strengthening teacher support.
Guest of Honour and Umroi MLA Damanbait Lamare praised the school for its contribution to the educational and cultural development of Ri Bhoi district, urging students and faculty to continue striving for excellence.
A key highlight of the celebration was the reading of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), in which the school outlined plans to expand infrastructure, introduce Science, Commerce, and Arts streams, and add co-curricular and recreational courses, while seeking government assistance to realise the project.
The programme featured cultural performances, speeches by alumni, felicitation of retired teachers and meritorious students, the release of a school souvenir, and the launch of a book authored by Dr. Mistilia Dkhar. Newly decorated classrooms were also inaugurated on the occasion.
The Golden Jubilee came to a close with the lowering of the Jubilee Flag, rendition of the school anthem, and a vote of thanks by Headmistress Rev. Sr. Anyiele Richa, in the presence of students, alumni, faculty, parents, and community members.
