Shillong: The investigation into the alleged multi-crore rupee scam in the Shillong-Nongstoin-Rongjeng-Tura road project in Meghalaya has been officially handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The decision to hand over the investigation came after a case was filed against nine individuals, including contractors, senior government engineers, and corporate officials, who are accused of misappropriating funds allocated for the project.
The case was filed by the Chief Engineer of the PWD (Roads) in September 2024, following instructions from the state government.
The FIR, filed by PWD (NH) Chief Engineer AM Kharmawphlang, names nine individuals, including senior government engineers and officials from two private companies based in Telangana and Haryana.
Director General of Police Idashisha Nongrang has issued an order transferring the investigation of the alleged multi-crore rupee scam in the road project to the CID.
The CID will now appoint an investigating officer and a dedicated team to conduct a thorough probe into the matter.
The incumbent police officer, who had been initially tasked with the investigation, has been instructed to transfer all case diaries and relevant documents to the CID.
The police’s previous attempts to probe the matter had been hindered by the technical nature of the case, leading to a standstill.
