Shillong: The Ministry of Education has approved the establishment of two new degree colleges in Meghalaya‘s East Jaintia Hills and West Khasi Hills.
Education Minister Rakkam A Sangma stated that the department has already issued an advertisement for the recruitment of faculty members.
Sangma added that the newly constructed Patharkhmah and Rongjeng degree colleges are slated to commence academic sessions this year.
In addition, the Mawphlang Commerce and Science College will begin operations from the current academic session.
While Sangma emphasized Meghalaya’s high teacher-student ratio compared to other states, he also acknowledged a severe shortage of educational infrastructure and institutions.
He mentioned that in the last five years, the state government had constructed new buildings for colleges, secondary and primary schools, and professional institutions such as polytechnics and ITIs.
