Shillong: Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal, Additional Director General (ADG) of the Border Security Force (BSF) Eastern Command, wrapped up a four-day visit to Meghalaya on Sunday, aimed at assessing operational readiness and security arrangements along the Indo-Bangladesh international border.
During the visit, Aggarwal toured several Border Outposts (BOPs) in the West Jaintia Hills and East Khasi Hills districts, where he interacted with BSF personnel stationed in remote and challenging locations.
He commended the troops for their dedication and resilience amid difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions.
Inspector General (IG) of BSF Meghalaya Frontier, O.P. Upadhyay, briefed the ADG on the prevailing security scenario, including recent anti-smuggling operations, troop deployments, and coordination with civil authorities.
The ADG reviewed strategies adopted to curb illegal infiltration and smuggling activities along the porous border, noting the BSF’s notable success in disrupting cross-border crimes.
While addressing officers at the Frontier Headquarters, Aggarwal stressed the need for heightened vigilance, professionalism, and high morale.
He also underlined the importance of BSF’s civic action programmes in fostering goodwill among border residents.
As part of his visit, the ADG held strategic meetings with senior officials from the state’s civil and police administration to enhance inter-agency coordination for more effective border management.
He also called on the Governor of Meghalaya, Chandrashekhar H. Vijayashankar, at Raj Bhavan, where he briefed him on the current security landscape and BSF’s proactive measures along the international boundary.

Aggarwal later met Chief Secretary D.P. Wahlang to discuss administrative cooperation, logistical support for BSF operations, and joint efforts to maintain peace and order in the sensitive border region.
The BSF reiterated its commitment to national security and pledged continued support to the development and welfare of communities living along the border.
