Umling (Meghalaya): Police in Ri-Bhoi district penalised Tanzil Hussain, son of Assam Congress MP Rakibul Hussain, after his vehicle was found fitted with an unauthorised flasher light during a late-night checking drive on Thursday, officials said on Friday.
The car, registered in Tanzil Hussain’s name, was intercepted at Umling as part of routine inspections.
Officers noticed a flasher mounted on the vehicle, triggering a closer examination.
Police said the beacon was being used without mandatory authorisation, violating government norms.
The device was immediately dismantled and an on-the-spot fine was issued.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) VS Rathore, who oversaw the checking, criticised the misuse of official privileges.
“Is the MP inside the vehicle? If he were, it would be a different matter — but he is not. Has the entire family become MPs now?” Rathore said while the beacon was removed.
He reiterated that flasher lights are strictly reserved for the officeholder and cannot be used by relatives or associates.
Officials added that the action is part of a broader clampdown across Meghalaya on vehicles unlawfully displaying beacons or flasher lights.
