GUWAHATI: Air Marshal Inderpal Singh Walia, AVSM, VM, assumed the role of Senior Air Staff Officer (SASO) at Eastern Air Command (EAC) of the Indian Air Force on Monday.
A distinguished alumnus of the prestigious National Defence Academy, Air Marshal Walia was commissioned into the IAF in 1988.
With an illustrious flying career spanning over 3,200 hours, Air Marshal Walia has flown a wide variety of fighter aircrafts, including all variants of the MiG-21, MiG-23 BN, MiG-27, Jaguar, and Su-30 MKI.
He has held key leadership positions, commanding a frontline fighter squadron, the Tactical and Combat Development Establishment, and a key base in the Central Sector.
Besides his operational expertise, Air Marshal Walia has served in various staff roles at both Command and Air Headquarters levels.
He has also represented India as the Defence Attaché to Japan, enriching his diplomatic and international experience.

Prior to his appointment as SASO at EAC, he served as Air Defence Commander (AD Cdr) at Western Air Command.
In recognition of his exceptional service, Air Marshal Walia was awarded the Vayu Sena Medal in 2008 and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2018.
