Resubelpara: Over 80 persons, including women and children, have suffered from food poisoning after consuming a mixture of lentils, locally known as chana mix, at Adokgre village in Meghalaya’s North Garo Hills.
According to district officials of North Garo Hills, a football match was held at Chenangre Stadium in Adokgre on October 9. Hundreds of spectators who were at the football venue for the game consumed a mixture of lentils from a local vendor and a few hours later began to experience discomfort with gastrointestinal problems.
The affected individuals were immediately taken to the Adokgre PHC, but due to the severity of some cases, six of them required further medical attention and were referred to hospitals in Guwahati and Goalpara.
The Deputy Commissioner and the Superintendent of Police visited the patients at Adokgre PHC and urged the public to remain calm and report any individuals experiencing similar symptoms for prompt medical assistance.
Recent updates from the medical department indicate that all the affected individuals are now out of danger.

The suspected food items have been seized by the Food Safety Officer of North Garo Hills. The samples of the consumed food have been sent to Shillong for laboratory analysis.
In response to this incident, the District Administration of North Garo Hills has launched an investigation.
