SHILLONG: Six people have been arrested in connection with the brutal assault on a woman in Dadenggre, West Garo Hills.
The incident occurred in Lower Teksragre village under Damal Asim outpost on Tuesday, where a group of men attacked the woman in the presence of over 100 spectators who reportedly stood by without intervening.
The assault, captured on video and widely circulated on social media, depicted several men violently beating the woman with sticks.
The video footage shows the attackers continuing their assault even after the sticks broke, with one assailant kicking the victim while others watched passively.
According to sources, the attack was allegedly motivated by suspicions of an illicit affair involving the victim.
The video clip, which garnered condemnation across the state, ends with a senior citizen attempting to intervene to stop the assault.
Upon receiving the video on Wednesday morning, West Garo Hills police swiftly launched an investigation, identifying the location as Damal Asim in Dadenggre subdivision.
