Shillong: The fourth edition of the Sohra International Half Marathon is scheduled to take place on September 27, with organisers expecting a record turnout of around 10,000 participants.
The event, jointly organised by the Meghalaya Athletics Association, Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA), and the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs, carries a sanctioned budget of Rs. 2.97 crore.
The total prize pool stands at Rs. 15.5 lakh, MSOA Working President JF Kharshiing confirmed.
Registration fees for the marathon vary between Rs. 50 and Rs. 1,000, depending on the race category.
Participants can register until September 10 through both online and offline platforms across designated centres in the state.
The marathon will feature several race categories, including the 21km Elite Open (for runners aged 18 and above), 21km Open Meghalaya, 10km (for various age groups), and a 5km Fun Run.
Notably, the 60+ category has been discontinued due to low turnout in past editions.
In the Elite Open 21km event, top finishers in both men’s and women’s divisions will receive Rs. 1.5 lakh, Rs. 75,000, and Rs. 50,000 respectively.
The race will begin from Laitsohpliah and end at Mawsmai. Authorities have announced that roads to Sohra will remain closed from 6 am to 10 am on the day of the event to facilitate smooth conduct of the marathon.
