Shillong: The Eastern Command Investiture Ceremony 2026 was held on Tuesday (February 10) at Umroi Military Station in Meghalaya to honour Indian Army personnel for acts of gallantry, distinguished service and devotion to duty.
The annual ceremony was presided over by Lieutenant General Ram Chander Tiwari, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command. A total of 37 gallantry and distinguished service awards were presented to officers and personnel in recognition of exceptional courage, leadership and selfless service.
The awards included 19 Sena Medals (Gallantry), seven Sena Medals (Distinguished), two Yudh Seva Medals, one Bar to Vishisht Seva Medal, seven Vishisht Seva Medals and one Uttam Jeevan Raksha Padak, officials said.
In addition, 49 Army units and Army Public School, Kolkata were presented with the GOC-in-C, Eastern Command Unit Appreciation in recognition of their operational excellence, professionalism and notable achievements.
Senior officers of the Indian Armed Forces and family members of the awardees, including Veer Naris, attended the ceremony, reflecting the Army’s tribute to the sacrifices made by soldiers and their families.
Addressing the gathering, Lt Gen Tiwari congratulated the awardees for their exemplary service and exhorted all ranks to continue upholding the highest traditions, values, and ethos of the Indian Army.

As a lead-up to the investiture, a cultural evening titled “Shaurya Sandhya” was organised on Monday (February 9), showcasing India’s cultural diversity and celebrating the spirit of courage, valour and sacrifice.
