Shillong: The Central Recruitment Board (CRB) of Meghalaya Police has taken strict action against two candidates who were caught using unfair means during recently held recruitment examinations.
The candidates have been disqualified and permanently debarred from all future police recruitment processes.
According to official statements issued by Dalton P Marak, IPS, Inspector General of Police (SB/Bdr) and Chairman of the CRB, two separate incidents of malpractice were reported during written examinations for police posts held in West Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills districts.
The first incident occurred on May 25, 2025, during the Un-Armed Branch Constable (UBC) examination.
A candidate bearing Roll No. 33025614 was reported for violating examination guidelines by using unfair means at a centre in West Garo Hills.
Upon being approached by invigilators for verification, the candidate allegedly tore their admit card and fled the venue.
Authorities believe the action indicated an intent to conceal misconduct and evade consequences.
As a result, the candidate has been disqualified from the current recruitment and debarred from all future police exams until further notice.
In a separate incident on May 18, 2025, during the written test for the post of Un-Armed Branch Sub-Inspector (UBSI), a candidate with Roll No. 11018783 was caught engaging in similar malpractice at an examination centre in West Khasi Hills.
The CRB termed the act “condemnable and intolerable” within the framework of its Transparent Recruitment Process (TRP).
This candidate has also been disqualified from the current recruitment drive and barred from applying for any future police posts under the CRB.
Both candidates have been given the opportunity to appeal the decision.

They may submit a written representation to the CRB through the respective Superintendents of Police of West Garo Hills and West Khasi Hills—who served as the Examination-in-Charge in their respective districts.
Appeals must be filed within seven days from the date of this announcement. Failure to do so will render the decisions final.
The Meghalaya Police reiterated its commitment to fair and transparent recruitment and warned that any breach of examination rules will be dealt with firmly.
