Imphal: BJP Legislature Party leader Yumnam Khemchand Singh took oath as the new Chief Minister of Manipur on Wednesday, marking the end of nearly a year of President’s Rule in the state.

Deputy Chief Ministers Nemcha Kipgen and Losii Dikho, along with the state’s new Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam alos took oath today.

Governor of Manipur Ajay Kumar Bhalla administered the oath at the oath taking ceremony held at the Lok Bhavan.

On February 3, over 45 MLAs of the Manipur Legislative Assembly reached a consensus on Singh as the next chief minister.

Earlier today, Yumnam Khemchand Singh staked claim to form a government in Manipur. It may be mentioned that, President’s Rule, which was in effect in Manipur since February 2025, was revoked earlier in the day.

Khemchand met Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Lok Bhavan in Imphal and submitted a claim to form a BJP-led NDA government in the State.

In a post on social media earlier today, Khemchand said, “I am confident that with the formation of the new Council of Ministers, peace and development will serve as the guiding principles of the new government.”

“The political journey towards the vision of Viksit Bharat and Viksit Manipur is not without challenges, but our priorities will remain firmly aligned with achieving these ambitious goals,” he added.

Yumnam Khemchand Singh, a seasoned politician, has been elected twice to the Manipur Legislative Assembly from the Singjamei constituency, in 2017 and again in 2022.
