Imphal: The People for Animals (PFA), Manipur and Manipur Forest Department observed World Wildlife Day on Monday by releasing ten rescued wild animals into the wild, including at Keibul Lamjao National Park (KLNP).
The World Wildlife Day was observed under the theme “Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Planet”.
The ten wild animals were previously rescued by PFA Manipur, L Biswajeet Meitei, managing trustee of PFA Manipur, said.
The rescued wildlife were provided necessary medical care at the animal shelter of PFA before being released to their natural habitat.
While eight animals were released in suitable areas under the jurisdiction of Central Forest Division, the remaining two were released at Keibul Lamjao National Park.
Two Burmese ferret badgers (Nungok), one small Indian civet (Moirang Sathibi), one monocled cobra (Kharou), two Bengal monitors (Hangkok), one flying fox (Mayang Sekpi) and one Assam leaf turtle (Thengu) were released under the jurisdiction of Central Forest Division.
Meanwhile, one wild duck and one checkered keelback (Lilabob) were released in the water bodies of Keibul Lamjao National Park.

The rescued animals were transported to the release sites from the animal shelter at Thoubal with the help of the staff of the Thoubal Forest Division.
The initiative was undertaken under the supervision of Anurag Bajpai, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF) & Head of Forest Force(HOFF) of the state, on the instruction of L Joykumar, CCF (Wildlife).
