Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Sunday called on Union Minister of Parliamentary AffairsKiren Rijiju in New Delhi to discuss the development of a world-class football stadium in Manipur to nurture talent and uplift state’s sportspersons.
The chief minister was accompanied by Youth Affairs Minister Govindas Konthoujam and other officials.
Biren Singh has been in New Delhi since Wednesday, meeting with various political leaders. This visit comes amid speculation about a potential leadership change in the state, following the emergence of a letter on social media allegedly written by state legislators demanding his removal.

“We discussed advancing major development projects in the state under the purview of Ministry of Minority Affairs. In addition, deliberated on developing a world-class football stadium in Manipur to nurture talent and uplift sportspersons,” Singh said.
He said that the Department of Minorities & Other Backward Classes (MOBC) has significantly improved the lives of people on the ground through various projects across the state.
Notably, the Department has established Sadbhavna Mandaps, Model Residential Schools in 13 districts, transit accommodations, and housing and drinking water supply schemes, with a primary focus on the hill districts of Manipur.
“Immensely thankful to Union Minister Kiren Rijiju for further considering our request to build a world class sports infrastructure,” the chief minister added.
“Honble CM Shri @NBirenSingh ji has built many valuable infrastructures in the Hills of Manipur through the Schemes of the Ministry of Minority Affairs. Now, he has requested for building Sports Infrastructure at Imphal. We will do it,” Kiren Rijiju posted on X.
The chief minister also held a meeting with the officials of the PWD in the presence of Public Works Department, Youth Affairs & Sports Minister, Govindas Konthoujam and Chief Secretary Dr. Vineet Joshi in New Delhi.

“Had a productive discussion on effective execution of developmental works to enhance growth & sustenance in both urban and rural sectors, while deliberating on new projects which are in the pipeline,” Singh added.
