IMPHAL: The residents of a village in West Imphal are planning to submit a memorandum to Chief Minister Biren Singh after two children went missing in Lamshang on Sunday.
The youth have been identified as Avinash Maibam (16) and Ninthoujam Anthony (18).
In an effort to draw attention to their plight, the families also met with Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan and sought the assistance of Titular King of Manipur and Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba at the Manipur Royal Palace.
In light of escalating tension in the region following the incident, a Joint Action Committee (JAC) has been formed to address the case of the missing youths.
Registering a report at the Lamshang Police Station, the residents of Akham Awang Leikai told the local press that the two boys had left their homes ion a black motorcycle with registration number MN01-AN-3387 for Sekmai in the morning of November 5.
Reportedly, they had gone to attend an oath taking ceremony of Arambai Tenggol, (AT) a Meitei socio-cultural organisation.
Reports in the local press inform that the parents of the missing boys suspect the involvement of armed Kuki miscreants in their disappearance and have urged for action immediate action to locate and ensure their safe return.
Meanwhile, CCTV footage from the Sekmai area shows the missing boys riding their motorcycle towards Kanglatombi. Although their mobile phones have been tracked near the Senapati Oil pump, the boys’ whereabouts remain unknown till the time of writing this report.
The Kangpokpi police has launched search operations in certain areas to locate the boys and highlighting the urgency of the situation, a significant number of women organised a sit-in meeting along the Gampiphai road to exert pressure on the authorities.
