Imphal: Two women linked to a banned militant outfit were arrested in Manipur’s Thoubal district for their alleged involvement in the abduction of three minors for recruitment into the organisation, police said on Wednesday.
The accused, identified as cadres of the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (Prepak), were apprehended from the Khangabok area on Monday, a senior police officer said. The arrests followed an investigation into the reported abduction of three children from Kakching Khunou Ngaikhong Leikai in Kakching district on Sunday.
The accused have been identified as Ningthoujam Roshidiya (24), a resident of Khangabok Khulakpam Leikai, and Bidya (30) of Thoubal Haokha Maning Leikai, both in Thoubal district.
The officer said the minors were rescued from Uchiwa Awang Leikai in Imphal West district and later reunited with their parents. A vehicle allegedly used in the kidnapping was also recovered.
Police said efforts are underway to trace and arrest other accomplices involved in the incident.
Security forces have been conducting sustained search and combing operations across Manipur since ethnic violence erupted in May 2023. The unrest, involving Meitei and Kuki-Zo groups, has so far claimed more than 260 lives and displaced thousands.
