IMPHAL: Two militants belonging to the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) were arrested by the police in Imphal West district, Manipur, as confirmed in an official statement released on Friday.
The two individuals, who have been actively involved in illegal extortion activities in the region, were apprehended from the Awang Wanagai Lamkhai area of Imphal West on Thursday.
The arrest comes after an intensive operation conducted by local law enforcement agencies, who have been working to combat militant groups in the area.
The police seized two mobile phones along with other items from the militants, which are now being scrutinised for further investigation.
Authorities have indicated that the arrest of these militants is a crucial development in the ongoing efforts to clamp down on insurgent and extortionist activities that have plagued the region.
