A potential forest fire near the Friendship Bridge Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Moreh in Manipur’s Tengnoupal district was quickly contained on February 28, following prompt action by alert troops deployed along the International Boundary.
The blaze was detected at an early stage by vigilant picquets positioned in the area. On noticing smoke rising from the nearby forest, troops immediately assessed the situation and mobilised to the site without delay.
Considering the blaze’s closeness to sensitive sites and key infrastructure in and around the ICP, swift measures were crucial. The troops undertook fire-control operations, including the creation of fire lines and the use of available firefighting equipment to prevent the flames from spreading further.
The coordinated and timely response prevented the fire from spreading towards critical infrastructure and adjoining areas. Continuous monitoring of the affected site was carried out to ensure complete extinguishment and eliminate any possibility of re-ignition.
