Imphal: Three members of the radical Meitei group Arambai Tenggol were arrested by security forces in Imphal West district on charges of extortion, according to police reports on Sunday.
The arrests occurred on Saturday in Keithelmanbi, where the suspects were allegedly collecting money from commercial vehicle drivers operating on the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway.
They had been issuing challans to enforce the extortion, a senior police officer revealed.
The arrested individuals were identified as Thangjam George Singh (28), Abujam Narendra Singh (21), and Wahengbam Amarjit Singh (35).
Authorities recovered a printer, nine rolls of paper, two handheld wireless sets, and other items from their possession.
In a separate operation, security forces apprehended a member of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (Taibanganba) involved in extortion, recruitment, and abduction activities across Kakching, Thoubal, and Imphal West districts.

Leisangthem Rajesh Singh was arrested on Saturday from the Langmeidong Mamang Awang Leikai area in Kakching.
Additionally, a member of the banned outfit NRFM, Meitram Somorjit Singh, was arrested from Khumbong Bazar in Imphal West district.
Police seized a firearm, ammunition, five mobile handsets, and other articles from his possession.
