Imphal: In a renewed crackdown on insurgent activity, security forces in Manipur arrested ten militants belonging to banned outfits over the past 24 hours in coordinated operations across three districts — Imphal West, Imphal East, and Bishnupur.

Officials confirmed on Monday that those arrested are linked to proscribed groups, including the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) and the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK).

The arrests were made as part of intensified counterinsurgency operations by joint teams comprising the Army, Manipur Police, Assam Rifles, BSF, CRPF, and ITBP.

Arms and materials recovered from the militants included pistols, ammunition, mobile phones, and incriminating documents.

According to police, the arrested individuals were allegedly involved in a range of criminal activities, including extortion from educational institutions, kidnappings, and firing incidents in the Imphal valley.

The Manipur Police, in a statement, urged citizens to remain vigilant and refrain from spreading or acting upon unverified information circulating on social media.

“There are growing instances of fake videos and posts being shared online. Any such activity will attract legal consequences,” the statement warned.

It also reiterated an appeal for the return of looted arms and explosives to the nearest police station or security post.

As part of efforts to enhance law enforcement infrastructure, the state government has announced the establishment of a new police station in Imphal and the creation of 12 Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) posts across nine districts.

A senior official stated that the move aims to improve investigation oversight, strengthen policing in remote areas, and support effective law and order management amid ongoing unrest.

Security operations are expected to continue in both valley and hill regions as authorities push forward with their objective of restoring peace and stability in the conflict-hit state.
