A group of students, under the leadership of the Federal Students Organisation Manipur (FSOM), staged a protest on Thursday, attempting to lock the office of the Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BOSEM) in Babupara. The demonstration was driven by dissatisfaction over the prolonged delay in appointing a chairman for the board, according to police reports.
The protest saw a large number of students entering the office premises, demanding immediate action on the appointment. Their attempt to lock the building was thwarted by police, leading to a brief but intense confrontation between the two sides.
“Despite our repeated requests for the appointment of a chairman for BOSEM, the authorities have failed to address our concerns. The absence of leadership is hindering the board’s functioning, and we are left with no choice but to escalate our agitation if the situation remains unresolved,” stated Kangujam Amarjit, president of FSOM.
The protest highlights growing frustration among students over what they perceive as administrative apathy.
The students argue that the lack of a chairman is not only affecting the management of BOSEM but also creating uncertainties for their academic future.
While the police managed to disperse the demonstrators and restore order, the incident underscores the pressing need for the government to address the concerns of the student community.
With FSOM vowing to intensify its protests, the authorities may face increasing pressure to resolve the issue promptly.
