Imphal: Security forces in Manipur arrested six militants, including two women cadres belonging to different insurgent outfits, in coordinated operations across multiple districts of the state on Saturday, police officials said.
The arrested militants are linked to the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) and its political wing, the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF), the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), and the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK).
According to police, two active women cadres of the PLA were arrested from the India–Myanmar border area between Sunrise Ground and Gate No. 2 at Moreh in Tengnoupal district.
The two women are residents of Bishnupur district and Imphal West district, respectively.
Arms and ammunition were recovered from the possession of the arrested militants during the operations.
In a separate action, Manipur Police also arrested two individuals involved in a series of mobile phone thefts, cyber fraud and related criminal activities operating across Senapati and Imphal West districts.
Meanwhile, security forces recovered a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) from the stretch between Sijang village and Sanamahi Temple in the vicinity of a Naga village under Churachandpur district.
The cylindrical IED, fitted with a pressure mechanism and containing around 10 kg of explosives, was safely defused and destroyed by the Bomb Disposal Team in the presence of local leaders and district police officials.
Authorities said central and state security agencies have intensified anti-insurgency operations across Manipur, with extensive search operations and area domination drives underway in fringe, mixed-populated and vulnerable areas across several districts.
