New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday introduced the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Second Amendment) Bill, 2025, in Parliament to formalise the decisions taken at the 56th GST Council meeting.
The bill seeks to replace the Manipur GST Ordinance promulgated on October 7 and brings the state law in line with the revised national GST structure.
The Council, comprising the Centre and states, had approved a major rationalisation of GST rates on nearly 375 items by merging the 5, 12, 18 and 28 per cent slabs into two—5 per cent and 18 per cent—while proposing a 40 per cent rate for ultra-luxury goods.
The revised rates came into effect on September 22, necessitating amendments to state GST laws across the country.
Manipur, currently under President’s Rule, is among the states required to update its legislation to implement the changes.
