Imphal: A self-styled lieutenant of Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) was serious wounded when a person suddenly opened fire at him from close range.
Sources said, Albert Khongsai, a self-styled lieutenant of the proscribed insurgent outfit, the Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) was seriously wounded in the attack.
According to reports, on Thursday evening, Khongsai, along with some KRA cadres and civilians were drinking liquor at Saikul village in Kangpokpi district in Manipur.
The KRA is a signatory to the suspension of operations with the government and its cadres are now lodged in designated camps in Manipur.
While the KRA insurgents were in an inebriated state, a civilian suddenly snatched the 9 mm pistol from Khongsai and shot him from a close range.
A bullet hit Khongsai on the chest; he fell on the ground and was profusely bleeding.
Khongai was rushed to Imphal for treatment. He was operated at 11 am on Friday, the sources said.
Doctors at the hospital said the bullet has been removed and Khongsai is now out of danger.
Police at Saikul have registered a case and have launched a search operation to nab the person who had opened fire at Khongsai.
Police have also started an investigation to find out details of the case, and are trying to ascertain the reasons for sudden attack on Khongsai.
