Imphal: In a significant operation in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district, security forces recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition, police said on Monday.
They conducted the search operation near the Nepali Basti area in the district on Sunday and seized three rifles, one pistol, two improvised mortars, five bullets, two hand grenades and a mobile phone, police said.
Search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley Districts. During the search operation, the following items were recovered.

To ensure the free and safe movement of vehicles, strict security measures are implemented in all vulnerable locations, and security convoys are provided for travel through sensitive stretches.
To enhance security, 110 checkpoints have been strategically placed throughout Manipur, covering both hill and valley districts.
Security Forces on Saturday arrested two cadres of the UKRA (SoO group) in Churachandpur district.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Thangrengsong Kom (45) and L. Washington Kom (42).
The duo was apprehended for their involvement in extortion activities targeting ex-servicemen residing in Maunjang Village, New Dampi in the Churachandpur district.
During the operation, security forces recovered two mobile phones, one wallet, and one catapult from the possession of the arrested cadres.
Search operations have been conducted across Manipur since ethnic violence broke out in the northeastern state in May 2023.
A joint team comprising Manipur Police, CRPF, Forest Department, and an Executive Magistrate conducted a successful operation on Friday to destroy illegal poppy cultivation in the hills of Lhungjang village in Kangpokpi District.

During the drive, approximately 35 acres of land under poppy cultivation were destroyed by the joint team.
An FIR has been registered in connection with this incident, and further investigation is underway.
This operation highlights the concerted efforts of various agencies to combat illegal poppy cultivation and its associated drug trade in the state.
