Imphal: Security forces recovered caches of arms from three hill districts of Manipur in operations carried out for the past few days, police said on Thursday.
Acting on specific intelligence, extensive operations were carried out by the forces over the last few days at multiple locations of Churachandpur, Tengnoupal and Chandel districts.
During the operation, the security forces recovered 11 pistols, 37 single-barreled rifles, two .303 rifles, and one each of M-16, MA-1, MK-II INSAS, Carbine and double-barreled rifles, the police said.
Besides, three lathode bombs and 28 pompis (locally made mortars), along with 57 ammunition of different types, were also found. In addition, 23 radio sets were recovered by the police during the search.
Police said that senior officers remain in close coordination with all security stakeholders to ensure that such operations continue in a sustained and focused manner, aimed at restoring peace and normalcy, maintaining public order and ensuring the safety of lives and properties of citizens.
On September 18, security forces recovered arms and ammunition from the general area of Aigejang under New Keithelmanbi Police Station in Kangpokpi district. The seizure included four bolt-action rifles, two 9mm pistols with magazines, and five 12-bore cartridges.

In another such operation, forces recovered arms, ammunition, and equipment from the general areas of Gamdai and S. Mongoi in Kangpokpi district. The recovery included three bolt-action rifles, three 9mm pistols with empty magazines, four live 12-bore cartridges with a belt, five 12-bore blank cartridges, one wireless handheld set with two chargers, and two bulletproof plates.
