Security forces conducted a successful operation in Manipur’s Thoubal district, uncovering a significant cache of arms and ammunition, police reported on Thursday.
The operation was carried out on Wednesday in the Fungei Ching Ngamukhong area, leading to the recovery of 16 firearms, six high-explosive (HE) grenades, two detonators, a large quantity of ammunition, and a walkie-talkie set complete with a charger. However, no arrests were made in connection with the recovery, according to an official police statement.
To bolster security and prevent further violence, authorities have established 107 checkpoints across various districts, covering both the hill areas and the Imphal Valley. Despite rigorous monitoring, no individuals were detained on Wednesday for any legal violations, the statement added.
Manipur continues to grapple with ethnic violence that erupted in May last year, claiming the lives of over 250 people. The recovery of these weapons underscores the ongoing challenges in maintaining peace and stability in the region.
