Imphal: In a significant operation, security forces dismantled camps belonging to two banned militant organisations in Manipur’s Imphal East district, police reported on Thursday.

A hideout of the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) was uncovered at Makou Pourabi during a search operation on Wednesday.

Security forces seized an air gun, a mobile handset, and a bulletproof helmet from the site.

In another operation in the same area, a training camp of the banned People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) was destroyed.

The forces recovered an INSAS LMG magazine, a bayonet, five wooden dummy guns, two walkie-talkie sets, and cartridges during the raid.

Further bolstering the crackdown on insurgent activities, police apprehended nine members of the outlawed Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) over the past two days for their involvement in extortion activities.

On Wednesday, two members of the KCP (PWG) were arrested at Mantripukhri Bazar in Imphal East district.

Demand letters and cash receipt notes associated with the group were recovered from their possession.

Additionally, six cadres were detained during raids at Bijoypur Mamang Leikai and Makha Leikai in Kakching district on the same day.

On Tuesday, another cadre of the KCP (PWG), involved in extortion activities, was arrested from the Tangkhul Avenue area in Imphal West district.

These operations underscore the intensified efforts of security forces to root out insurgency and dismantle militant networks in the region.
