Imphal: Manipur Congress president Keisham Meghachandra Singh on Friday reiterated that the state’s ongoing turmoil cannot be resolved through the involvement of the RSS, asserting that only a government-driven political solution, administrative accountability, and confidence-building measures can restore peace.
Reacting to the three-day tour of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Singh said any visit that “prioritises strengthening organisational growth” over addressing the suffering of the people sends a wrong signal.
“The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee takes note of the visit of RSS Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat to Manipur. At a time when the state continues to grapple with unprecedented violence, displacement, social division, and administrative collapse, the people expected the Centre to send a concrete plan for peace and restoration of normalcy,” Singh wrote on X.
He alleged that instead of focusing on the humanitarian crisis and governance breakdown, the visit appears centred on expanding RSS organisational activities in the state. “Strengthening ideological organisations will not bring peace,” he added.
The Congress leader said if the Central Government was serious about resolving the ethnic crisis, it should immediately present a roadmap for peace, establish a unified command structure, ensure the safe return of displaced families, and fix accountability for administrative failures.
“MPCC reiterates that the focus must remain on restoration of normalcy, protection of all communities, and justice for victims. Political or ideological visits cannot substitute real governance,” Singh said, stressing that “Manipur needs healing, not polarisation.”
Bhagwat reached Imphal on Thursday — his first visit since ethnic violence erupted in May 2023. During his stay, he is scheduled to hold a series of closed-door meetings with RSS members, assess the organisation’s activities in the state, and interact with entrepreneurs, tribal representatives, youth leaders and other prominent figures.
