Imphal: Residents of the Sagolband area in Imphal West district staged a sit-in protest on Wednesday, condemning a shooting incident at a children’s home for orphaned boys.
The protesters, holding placards, demanded the swift arrest of those responsible for the attack.
According to police reports, at least two armed individuals fired six rounds at the orphanage at approximately 1:40 am.
No injuries were reported, but the incident has sparked widespread outrage in the community.
Khaiden Ongbi Romita, who manages the home, expressed her dismay over the incident.
“It is deeply unfortunate that a home for children has been targeted. The motive behind the attack is unclear. We urge everyone to ensure such incidents never happen again. This home provides shelter to many orphaned children,” she said.
Meanwhile, security forces apprehended three individuals, including two militants, from various locations in Imphal West, Imphal East, and Kangpokpi districts on charges of extortion, police confirmed on Wednesday.
