New Delhi: President’s Rule has been imposed in Manipur following the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh on Thursday.
In addition, the state’s legislative assembly has been placed under suspended animation.
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification announcing the imposition of central rule, stating that President Droupadi Murmu has determined that the situation in the state has made it impossible for the government to function in accordance with the Constitution.
The notification, invoking Article 356 of the Constitution, confirmed that the President will assume all executive powers of the Manipur government, including those vested in or exercisable by the Governor.

Meanwhile, six people belonging to three proscribed outfits were arrested from Manipur’s Imphal West and Kakching districts, police said on Thursday.
Four cadres of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG) were apprehended from their camp at Kameng Sabal in Imphal West district on Wednesday, a senior officer said.
The arrested PWG members – Takhelmayum Victor (23), Huidrom Vikash Singh (25), Oinam Naocha (19) and Awungshi John (33) – were involved in extortion, he said.
