Imphal: Manipur Police rescued two minors who had allegedly been recruited by the banned militant group People’s Liberation Army (PLA), an official statement revealed on Tuesday.

The rescue operations took place on March 8, with the girls being recovered from Kakching Bazaar in Kakching district and Wangbal Laikon in Thoubal district.

On the same day, authorities apprehended two PLA members, identified as Moirangthem Romen Singh (23) and Nongmaithem Mohendro Singh (54), at Kakching Bazaar.

According to the statement, the duo was actively involved in recruiting the minors into the proscribed outfit.

Meanwhile, in a separate operation on Monday, police arrested two militants from the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (People’s War Group) in Haobam Marak, Imphal West. Four grenades without detonators were seized from their possession, the statement added.

Another militant, associated with the United People’s Party of Kangleipak (UPPK), was arrested on the same day in Keirao Wangkhem, Imphal East.

Identified as Ningombam Bonbon Singh (45), he was reportedly involved in extortion activities targeting government officials, private entities, and the general public.

Authorities also seized a .32 pistol with a magazine and eight cartridges from him.

In a separate operation, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the army, dismantled a makeshift camp belonging to the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) in Churachandpur district.

The camp, comprising four bamboo huts, was located in a forested area near Songphu village and destroyed on March 8.

The UKNA, a militant outfit not part of the Suspension of Operations agreement with the central government, remains under scrutiny by security forces, as confirmed in an official statement issued by Assam Rifles on Tuesday.
