IMPHAL: Amidst the ongoing ethnic strife in the state, Manipur’s Chief Minister N Biren Singh seems to be pushing for developmental initiatives. Highlighting the government’s commitment to progress and development, Singh on Tuesday laid the foundation stones for a series of initiatives in Imphal.
Expressing confidence that peace and normalcy will soon return to the state, Chief Minister Singh told the press, “Peace will be restored, people will be happy.”
Earlier in the day, during his visit to Andro in East Imphal, the Chief Minister initiated multiple projects focused on the welfare and growth of its residents.
Valued at over Rs. 14 crore, these projects are aimed at enhancing sporting facilities for the youth, building infrastructure to stimulate commercial activities, and improving roadways to fortify transport and connectivity in the area.
Highlighting the broader objectives of these projects, Singh noted on a micro-blogging platform, “In alignment with the government’s vision to elevate living standards through improvements in income, health, and local commerce, these initiatives will not only rejuvenate the region but also propel the state’s economy.”
Earlier on Monday, the Chief Minister also revealed a significant success against militancy in the state.
Lauding the collaborating efforts of the Manipur Police and Central Armed Forces that led to the seizure of a considerable cache of arms, ammunition, drugs, and cash from the Myanmar-based militant group, CKLA, he informed that the haul included high-powered weapons such as AK47s, Insas, Sniper and M16 rifles, along with a substantial amount of ammunition.
Authorities also discovered about 2.5 kg of opium and cash amounting to Rs 4,86,500, he added.
“Today’s apprehension of CKLA cadres and the recovery of weapons has yet again underscored a transnational plot aimed at destabilising both Manipur and our nation,” he wrote on the website.
Reinforcing the gravity of the threat, Singh also cited a case taken up by the National Investigation Agency (NIA). The agency had previously noted the potential transnational conspiracy between the leadership of terrorist factions in Myanmar and Bangladesh to wage war against India, especially leveraging the current unrest in Manipur.
