Imphal: Manipur Police on Saturday destroyed more than 330 kg of seized narcotics at the Shija Common Bio-Medical Waste Treatment facility in Imphal West, officials said.
The haul included 6 kg of heroin, 87 kg of brown sugar, and 182 kg of ganja.
“The disposal was conducted under strict supervision to ensure full compliance with legal and environmental protocols at the designated facility,” police officials said.
Manipur Police Chief Rajiv Singh told reporters that the operation was carried out in a “safe, environmentally responsible and transparent manner.”

He added that such measures are not only a legal obligation but also a moral responsibility.
“Following the directives of the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister, we remain committed to combating drug trafficking. We coordinate closely with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and major cases involving nationwide networks have been handed over to them for investigation,” Singh said.
He further noted that the state conducts drug disposal exercises at regular intervals—typically every six months—to prevent seized narcotics from re-entering circulation.
