Imphal: The Manipur Police along with village authorities from Kuilong and Kadi IV destroyed nearly 10 acres of poppy plants in the state’s Tamenglong district.
The operation took place from September 27 to October 3, in the Kuilong Part 2 and Kadi IV villages under the jurisdiction of Tamei Police Station.
According to reports, approximately 4-5 acres were cleared in Kuilong Part 2 village, while 5-6 acres were destroyed in Kadi IV village.

The suspected illegal cultivation, believed to be carried out by unidentified individuals, was uncovered through joint efforts by locals and police.
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh in a post on X said, “We will not rest until these poppy plantations and the drug menace are completely eradicated from Manipur.”
The chief minister recently said that altogether 16,788 acres of illegal poppy cultivation were destroyed between 2017 and 2024.
He also said that 412 FIRs were lodged and 87 people arrested in the last seven years in connection with illegal poppy cultivation in the state.

On October 3, the Superintendent of Police in Tamenglong led an additional operation to uproot poppy plants in the same areas, bolstering the state’s ongoing crackdown on illegal poppy cultivation.
This initiative marks a substantial stride in tackling the persistent drug-related challenges faced by local authorities.
