Guwahati: The North East Catholic Research Forum (NECARF) has condemned the act of a section of Meitei insurgents for portraying disrespect to the Christian prayers.
The video of a group of Meitei insurgents raiding a Church (somewhere in Manipur) had gone viral recently where it was seen the gun-toting rebels, holding the Holy Bible, mocking Christian prayers.
The heavily-armed rebels from Manipur were also seen drinking alcohol inside the church.
“The disrespect shown towards Christian prayers by the group of Meitei militant groups in a widely circulated video has shocked everyone,” the NECARF said in a statement issued on Friday.
The NECARF said the ‘deplorable act’ not only undermines the principles of secularism of India, but also poses a grave threat to religious harmony in Manipur.
Members of the Catholic Research Forum have urged both the state and central governments to urgently address these issues impartially, regardless of community or religious affiliations.
The failure to take decisive action not only jeopardizes public order in Manipur but also places the entire North East region at risk of destabilization, the NECARF said.
The NECARF said the ruling dispensation must realize that allowing such acts to persist will not only lead to historical blame but may also result in severe repercussions for India.
