Imphal/Guwahati: The Meitei Heritage Society (MHS) has urged the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC) to clarify its stance on a question linked to the Manipur crisis, allegedly included in the August 10 Agricultural Development Officer Examination.
In a statement issued on Monday, MHS claimed that the question was “mischievous” and intended to malign the Meitei community.
The group demanded that the commission declare the question “null and void” and ensure it is not considered for evaluation.
“Such a one-sided portrayal is unbecoming of a public service commission tasked with selecting individuals committed to fairness, impartiality, and service to the nation,” the organisation said.
MHS further alleged that the question and its suggested answers ignored the role of Kuki-Chin militants and related civil society organisations in the ongoing ethnic violence in Manipur.
The society said it had submitted a detailed representation highlighting its concerns and was informed that the matter is under review by the examination committee.
“We have full faith in the committee’s wisdom and expect a clarification acknowledging the biased nature of the question,” the statement added.
When approached for comment, APSC chairman Debaraj Upadhaya said the commission does not prepare question papers directly.

“Questions are framed by independent setters and then moderated by experts from reputed universities and colleges. The commission does not view these questions as they are locked by moderators,” he explained.
Upadhaya maintained that the process is entirely neutral, with no political or community bias.
“We have no mala fide intention. I cannot comment on the particular question as I have not seen it,” he said, adding that the principal controller of examinations would be able to provide further details.
