Shillong: Meghalaya MLA and Chairman of the State Government Programme Implementation & Monitoring Committee (SGPI&MC), Alexander Laloo Hek, has appealed to Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla to ensure more inclusive representation of all communities at the Manipur State Museum.
Alexander Laloo Hek, during his recent visit to Manipur, described the Manipur State Museum as enriching and called for more inclusive representation of all communities in its displays.
Hek said the museum provided valuable insights into Manipur’s rich history and cultural heritage, and suggested that balanced and inclusive representation of artefacts, histories, and cultural traditions of all communities would further strengthen unity and integration in the state.
He noted that Manipur, like the wider Northeast region, is home to diverse communities, each with its own distinct history, traditions, and cultural contributions. Inclusive representation, he said, would promote mutual understanding and harmony, particularly among visitors, scholars, and younger generations.
The Meghalaya legislator was in Manipur for a two-day visit on January 19 and 20 to participate in the North East Integration Rally (NEIR).
During the visit, Hek called on Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan, Kangla, where discussions were held on strengthening inter-state understanding, cooperation, and integration among northeastern states.
In a humble suggestion to the Governor, Hek said, “I sincerely feel that the museum would serve as an even more powerful symbol of unity and integration if artefacts, histories, and cultural representations of all communities are displayed in a balanced and inclusive manner, reflecting the collective heritage of the State rather than that of any single community.”
