Imphal: Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP) president Conrad Sangma arrived in Imphal on Thursday for a two-day visit, underlining the importance of restoring peace and normalcy in Manipur.

Speaking to reporters at the airport, Sangma said, “It is important to engage. If we don’t connect with the grassroots and the people, we are missing a point. Our aim is to reach out, listen, and take suggestions.”

During his visit, Sangma plans to meet NPP leaders, community representatives, stakeholders, and residents across the state.

“I am here to observe, interact, and engage with all stakeholders to see how we can move forward and ensure normalcy returns in Manipur,” he added.

The NPP currently has seven MLAs in the 60-member Manipur Assembly.

Sangma noted that while multiple efforts to stabilize the state have been undertaken, some have yielded results and others are still in progress.

“We are hopeful that through continued engagement and interaction, we will gradually move towards normalcy,” he said.

He stressed that the party aims to play a constructive role in ensuring the return of peace and a democratically elected government in Manipur.

“Over the past few months, major incidents have largely reduced, though some violence remains. It is a process, and we hope to advance it further,” Sangma said.

The NPP president emphasised that while elections are still some time away, the immediate priority is to restore stability and normalcy in the state.

“My visit is to assess the situation, see how we can serve the people, organise the party, and leave it to the people to decide,” he said.
