Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has extended warm greetings to the people of Manipur, particularly the Liangmai community, on the occasion of Chaga Ngee.
“On the joyous occasion of Chaga Ngee, I extend my heartfelt greetings to the brothers and sisters of Liangmai Naga community and all the people. May this festival inspire us to preserve our traditions and strengthen our bonds as a community. I pray for prosperity, happiness, and well-being for all,” Chief Minister N Biren Singh said.
Chaga Ngee, a significant festival of the Liangmai community, is celebrated annually on October 30. It is a festival of “sanctification, purification, blessing, thanksgiving.” After a season of hard work and bountiful harvests, the community acknowledges that their prosperity is a result of divine blessings.
The festival celebrates Liangmai culture through dances, songs, traditional sports, and a grand feast. During the festival, people belonging to the Liangmai tribe gather at festival venues to celebrate in a spirit of brotherhood.

The celebration of Chaga Ngee typically spans five days and is observed with great pomp and gaiety. The festival commences with the culturally significant “Chamimalapbo” ceremony, or the “Day of Welcome.” This day involves a gathering of young people in morungs, where they share meals and engage in humorous exchanges and singing with elders.
