IMPHAL: In a notable development, Manipur’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Pradeep Kumar Jha, revealed on Monday that the number of women voters in the state has now surpassed that of men.
This marks a significant demographic shift in the region’s electoral landscape.
According to the final electoral rolls, the total number of voters in the state stands at 20,54,387.
Of this, women voters make up a majority, with 10,61,979 women compared to 9,92,140 men.
In addition to this, there are 268 voters from the third gender category, further highlighting the state’s inclusive approach towards recognizing diverse gender identities in the electoral process.
The revision period saw an influx of new electors, with a total of 29,468 individuals being added to the voter list.
Among these, 13,348 were men, 16,118 were women, and two individuals were from the third gender category.
Additionally, 9,741 electors were removed from the rolls during the revision process.
In terms of service electors, which refer to those in the armed forces and other governmental services, the total stands at 21,148. Out of these, 20,131 are men, while 1,017 are women.
This data gives further insight into the gender distribution in the state’s electoral system.
Breaking down the voter distribution by districts, Imphal West has the highest number of electors, with 3,84,176 voters registered.

This is followed by Imphal East, which has 3,26,668 electors, and Thoubal, with 2,06,367 voters.
Among the hill districts, Churachandpur has the highest voter population, with 1,85,570 registered electors, while Senapati comes second with 1,46,666 electors.
In contrast, the districts of Jiribam and Kamjong have the lowest numbers of electors, with 31,513 and 35,813 voters, respectively.
These figures provide a detailed breakdown of voter distribution across Manipur, highlighting both urban and rural patterns of electoral participation.
This significant gender shift in the voter rolls demonstrates the evolving dynamics in Manipur’s political engagement, with more women actively participating in the electoral process.
