Imphal: The bomb detection squad of the Manipur police safely defused two high-explosive grenades near the residence of former Manipur Minister Bijoy Koijam in Imphal West district on Wednesday morning, police said.
According to police, the grenades were discovered around 6 am outside the residential gate of Bijoy Koijam at Thongju Pheijaleitong under the Singjamei police station in Imphal West district.
During a search of the area, the police found another grenade near the residence.
The bomb experts said that the grenades were detonated at the Dumping site of the Game Village Langol under the jurisdiction of the Lamphel police station in the evening.
The police have registered a case in this connection and an investigation is underway.
No individual or underground outfit claimed responsibility for the bomb threat.
Manipur police arrested two members of the proscribed People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) (PRO) on Tuesday in Imphal West district.
The duo was arrested from Namdulong Khuman Lampak Main Stadium Road.
The individuals apprehended were identified as Ashem Dinesh Meetei, 41, and Huidrom Tomba Singh, 36.
According to police, the two were involved in extortion activities in the Namdulong area.

During the arrest, police recovered four mobile handsets, a two-wheeler, two wallets, Rs 9,260 in cash, an ID card, a side bag, and a leaflet of PREPAK (PRO).
