Imphal: In the wake of Pahalgam terror attack, Manipur Police has announced plans to carry out a comprehensive survey and verification drive across the state to identify illegal Bangladeshi and Pakistani nationals residing without valid documentation.
A senior police official confirmed on Tuesday that the operation will focus primarily on regions where the presence of such individuals has been reported, including Lilong, Minuthong, Kwakta, Mayang Imphal, Sora, and Kairang in the Imphal Valley.
These areas have drawn attention due to growing concerns over suspected undocumented immigrants living without valid visas or Inner Line Permits (ILPs), which are mandatory for non-residents in the state.
As part of the initiative, all local police stations have been instructed to undertake strict verification measures and to scrutinise the identity and documentation of residents, particularly those suspected of being foreign nationals from Bangladesh or Pakistan.
Any individual found to be residing illegally will face legal action in accordance with existing immigration and security laws.
Police officers involved in the drive have also been directed to maintain detailed records of their findings and to document the verification process thoroughly.
This will help in creating a reliable database and ensure accountability throughout the operation.
Authorities emphasised that the move is aimed at strengthening internal security and preventing potential threats in light of national security concerns.

The campaign is also seen as a proactive measure to monitor cross-border migration and ensure that all non-citizens residing in the state are compliant with legal entry and residence norms.
The initiative is expected to begin shortly and will be conducted in coordination with local law enforcement units and relevant government agencies.
Residents have been urged to cooperate with the police during the verification process and to report any suspicious activities in their neighbourhoods.
