Imphal: Security forces arrested three cadres of a banned outfit from Kakching and Imphal East districts for their alleged involvement in extortions, police said on Saturday.
Three active cadres of the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), including a mother-son duo, were arrested on Thursday from Minuthong and Hiyanglam Awang Leikai in Imphal East and Kakching district, respectively.
The arrested cadres have been identified as Mutum Leishemba Meitei alias Pari, Maibam Indira Devi and Ronaldo Maibam.
According to police, Mutum Leishemba Meitei was involved in extortion from the public in the valley area.
Six mobile handsets and two Aadhaar cards were recovered from their possession.
Security forces also seized one .303 rifle, two 5.56 INSAS rifles and one 9mm pistol from Chagem Lokchao in Imphal East district on Friday, they added.
Manipur Police have arrested six individuals in a major crackdown on a fake cigarette racket operating in the state. The arrests were made during operations on August 28 and 29, 2025.
The operation began when police at the Mantripukhri Naka Check Point in Imphal East detained Moirangthem Sunderlal Meitei (45) of Khurai Angom Leikai. Authorities found 17 packets of fake and duplicate cigarettes in his possession.
Following this initial lead, police conducted further raids in different locations across Imphal West district, leading to the arrest of five more individuals and the seizure of an additional 326 packets of counterfeit cigarettes.
