Imphal: In a major breakthrough, Manipur Police arrested three militants from Imphal West district, an officer said on Sunday.
According to police, the two militants of the proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF-Pambei) group were apprehended from the Narankonjil area of the district on Saturday.
The officer said the two militants were involved in extortion and the illegal smuggling of arms and ammunition.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Khoisnam Ronaldo Singh (23) and Soram Ngouba Meitei (30).
Police recovered one .32 pistol along with a magazine, one two-wheeler vehicle, two mobile phones, and Rs 3,120 in cash from their possession.

In another operation, one militant of the banned outfit People’s Liberation Army (PLA) involved in extortion activity was arrested from the Kangjabi Leirak Machin area on Saturday, the officer added.
The individual, identified as Ningthoujam Khamba (52), was directly involved in extortion activities from rented houses and shops in Nagamapal and Uripok area.
The police recovered a two-wheeler, two mobile handsets, and a wallet containing Rs 510 and an Aadhaar card from his possession.
